Anti-Aging Strategies

The mission of our age management program is two-fold. We strive to both increase longevity through preventative medicine and improve quality of life as we age. This is an exciting time to be in this field as new research and therapies emerge every day.

Through Telomere Testing we can determine how rapidly one ages relative to a normal population. Telomeres are sections of genetic material at the end of each chromosome whose primary function is to prevent chromosomal “fraying” when a cell replicates. As a cell ages, its telomeres become shorter. Eventually, the telomeres become too short to allow cell replication, the cell stops dividing and will ultimately die – a normal biological process. Therapies directed at slowing the loss of telomere length may slow aging and age-related diseases.

Strategies to slow telomere shortening include:

  • Supplements and a diet high in anti-oxidants. Oxidative stress will shorten telomere length and cause aging in cellular tissue. Caloric restriction has also been proven to slow the aging process.
  • Lifestyle modifications including regular aerobic and resistance exercise, 8 hours of sleep a night, stress reduction, and discontinuation of tobacco products.
  • Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
  • Reducing all known coronary risk factors
  • New pharmacological treatments to slow telomere aging
